7th Grade Social Studies

In 7th Grade Social Studies, we are gearing up for a year of tremendous growth and awareness of the society around us and our role in it.

We have just concluded our round-tables and studies in the geography of the United States, which we capped off with a State Capital Bingo Game (congratulations Shoham!) and Capitals Quiz. The students were studying for quite some and are sure to ace it!

In addition, we will be having a debate over who should be the next Mayor of New York. The class has been divided into two teams, one for Mr. Lhota and one for Mr. Di Blassio and will "duke it out" on October 22nd.

This project is based on our theme of the year: citizen rights and responsibilities. Discussions and projects in the class this year will revolve around how the Constitution was formulated. what is the concept and the role behind the Bill of Rights and the development and proliferation of Civil and Human Rights movements.

It is our hope that these studies will help our students attain a true understanding of their roles in society. Please stay tuned to this blog for monthly updates!

It's a new year and the excitement for learning is in the air! The 7th Grade has so many wonderful projects going and I just wanted to share what we have done so far (in two weeks of September) and what the plan is for the upcoming fall season.

In English Language Arts, the class is learning every aspect of the English language: writing, reading, grammar, spelling and vocabulary.

Reading workshop has been a class favorite. We've learned how to identify facts in our reading, as well as how the facts parlay into ideas through which the author builds his/her literary artwork. In writing workshop, we have been practicing simple compositions in class and have a thorough program lined up to help students improve this area of communication.

This coming October, students will learn how to use their persuasive skills in writing as each student will select a topic and attempt to convince their audience of their position.

Vocabulary work is being done daily, with an interactive review game and quiz every few units.

There's a lot more to come, so please stay tuned to this post!

Best Wishes,
